BIO

Brandi Cooper is a self-taught, full-time artist working in acrylics, ink, mixed media and collage.

She enjoys creating on canvas and other substrates using paint, fabric and found objects. “Creating art is my Valium.” quotes Brandi. “I am happiest putting brush to paper, allowing the colors to create the mood and the story.”

Having recently retired from the work a day world, Cooper now puts much of her time towards learning new techniques from artists such as Jane Davies, Carol Nelson and  Laura Lein-Svencner among others.

She offers workshops and classes at the Plano Senior Center, Oak Point Recreation Center, her studio in her home, at The Goldmark Cultural Center and at YOUR venue. Her focus is on helping people find their own creativity by relaxing into a playful approach to art.

In June of 2013, Cooper became a Certified Zentangle Teacher. She has held many classes passing on the ease to which anyone can create beautiful abstract works with patterns. This meditative art form was originally created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas and can be further investigated at Zentangle.com.

I’m looking forward to sharing creative ideas and techniques with you.

Artist Statement

I believe making art is a journey of the soul. I also believe everyone has a creative side to them if they would just act on it.

Stop saying, “I could never do that” and come in and take the journey. You will be very surprised as to where you end up.

My students often praise my teaching abilities and remark on how pleased and surprised they are with what they have created.

Then I ask them, “Now what else do you think you cannot do?”
